Quota movement: Police nab Eden College student in Sirajganj

Police in a drive arrested a student of Eden college, also a leader of Bangladesh General Students' Rights Protection Council, a platform that led the quota reform movement, from her uncle’s house in Belkuchi upazila of Sirajganj district on Wednesday, reports UNB.

The arrestee is Lutfur Nahar Luna Sarkar, 21, a joint convener of General Students' Rights Protection Council and daughter of Abdul Kuddus of Baoikhola village in Kashiani upazila in Gopalganj and a second year student of Social Science Department of Eden College.

Officer-in-charge of Belkuchi Police Station Abdur Razzak said Cyber Crime unit of DMP and Belkuchi police jointly arrested Luna from her uncle’s house at Khidro Chaprar Char village in Belkuchi upazila around 5 am in a case filed under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act with Ramna Police Station.

Sirajganj Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Tutul Chakraborti said Sirajganj police assisted the DMP to arrest Luna and after her arrest the Cyber Crime team started for Dhaka at around 7:00am.

Earlier on August 12, students seeking quota reform threatened to go for tougher movement if their three-point demand is not met by August 31.

They came up with the ultimatum from a rally in front of Shahbagh National Museum.

Their demands are: Immediate release of the activists, who were detained during movement, from jail, punishment of the attackers involved in assaulting teachers and students and publish a gazette notification on quota reform in the civil service in line with their earlier five-point demand.
