The road transport and bridges minister has opposed the idea of introducing separate lanes for VIPs in favour of emergency service lanes in Dhaka.
He instead thinks emergency service lanes need to be introduced to ease the movement of emergency service vehicles.
Obaidul Quader came up with the remarks on Sunday while replying to queries about the introduction of VIP lanes from the journalists at his ministry.
Although the proposal is being scrutinised by the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA), he noted, “I think there is no need to introduce VIP lanes as the city's spaces are limited."
He, however, said his ministry has received a letter from the Cabinet Division in a proposal format regarding the introduction of VIP and emergency service lanes.
According to him, "Emergency service lanes can be introduced here, not VIP ones. I think, we have to come out of VIP culture."
UNB said the Cabinet Division recently proposed introducing separate lanes for the movement of Very Important Persons (VIPs), police vehicles, ambulances and vehicles of other emergency services.
