Quader opens two Covid hospitals for metro rail project workers

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today (Wednesday) opened two field hospitals for treatment of metro rain project’s engineers, workers and employees infected with coronavirus.

“The initiative will help build confidence in engineers and workers and thus speed up the construction of the metro rail,” he said while inaugurating the newly constructed field hospitals through a video conference from his official residence here.

Two field hospitals – one is a 14-bed hospital at Panchabati construction yard at Uttara and another 10-bed hospital at Gabtoli construction yard – are equipped with all necessary facilities, including ICU. Such hospitals have been constructed for the first time in the country for a particular development project.

Obaidul Quader said the government has taken all-out steps including construction of hospitals for safety of the metro rail project engineers-workers thinking that Covid-19 pandemic could not cause any hamper to the project work while the global health experts are anticipating further viral infections in the coming winter.

Quader, also ruling party general secretary, urged the people to be more cautious over the fatalities of the virus as the viral infection could soar in the upcoming winter.

There is no alternative out creating awareness among the people to prevent the spread of the Covid-19, he said, adding that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already urged all concerned to take necessary preparation to curb the spread of the deadly virus during the winter.

Road and Highway division secretary M Nazrul Islam, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL) Managing Director M A N Siddique and project directors, among others, joined the virtual programme, reports BSS.
