President urges national interest to hasten development

President M Abdul Hamid Monday urged all irrespective of party affiliations and opinions, to prioritise national interest to speed up development and progress.

"All have to give attention that no person or quarter or any party interest would impede the national interest," he said.

The President said it at a function at Bajitpur College in Kishoreganj on the occasion of its golden jubilee, reports BSS.

The President said as part of democratic practices, there might be different beliefs and thoughts or followers of different political parties but everybody must have one and same aim; to ensure welfare of the country and its people.

"Stability is very conducive to the development . . . Social, political and economic stability speeds up country's progress while instability hampers the growth," said he.

Hamid stressed the need for combating corruption and implementing the spirit of Liberation War to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of common people.

"You have to hate corruption heart and soul and remove corrupt practices from the society," Abdul Hamid suggested.

Terming the students as the immensely potential asset of a country, the President said they must build themselves world-class to face the challenges of this competitive millennium.

He asked the students to come out from the old-thinking and enrich themselves with time-befitting ideas or notions.

"Students will have to work in the society as pinion-builders", President Hamid added.

Freedom fighter Azizur Rahman, Chairman of Bajitpur Degree College, presided over the programme.

Mohammad Afzal Hossain, MP, Rejwan Ahammad Taufiq, MP, Mohammad Suhrab Uddin, MP, Kishoreganj Zila Parishad Chairman Advocate M Zillur Rahman, former lawmaker Manzur Ahmed Bachhu, businessman Abul Mansur Badal and acting Principal of the College AKM Mostafa Kamal were present on the occasion, among others.

Earlier, the President laid foundation stones of some development projects including a memorial monument, Muktijouddha Chattar and construction work of four bridges' at Bajitpur upazila on the sideline of the Bajitpur College's Golden Jubilee programme.

As part of the four-day visit to his home district, Abdul Hamid will also attend a programme at Katiadi Pilot High School on Tuesday.
