Preparations are underway to bring the bodies of 17 Bangladesh nationals, who were killed in the US-Bangla plane crash in Nepal back, to Dhaka.
Mohammad Al Alamul Emam, first secretary of Bangladeshi Embassy in Nepal, on Sunday said a special flight is being prepared in an attempt to bring the bodies back.
“The government is making preparations, but it depends on approval from the Nepalese government,” he said.
“We can send the bodies back on Monday after the approval is finalised,” the diplomat said.
Seventeen Bangladeshi victims of the March 12 crash were identified and a list containing the names was released by the Bangladesh Embassy on Saturday, according to bdnews24.com.
More bodies were identified on Sunday, but the embassy has not received word whether any of them were Bangladeshi nationals.
51 of the 71 passengers aboard the US-Bangla flight to Kathmandu were killed in the crash. Twenty-six of them were Bangladeshi nationals.
Five of the ten Bangladeshi survivors have returned to Bangladesh, two have been sent to Singapore and another was set to return to Dhaka on Sunday.
Survivor Shahin Bapari, who received treatment in a Kathmandu hospital, has boarded a Biman Bangladesh flight for home, said Bangladeshi envoy.
Survivor Kabir Hossain will return home on Monday.Embassy officials say they are trying to transfer Eakub Ali, who is currently admitted to Norvic International Hospital, to New Delhi for treatment.
Survivor Emrana Kabir Hashi, who was admitted to a Kathmandu hospital, was sent to Singapore. Survivor Rizwanul Haque has also been at a Singapore hospital since Wednesday.
Survivors Shahreen Ahmed, Mehedi Hassan, Saiyda Kamrunnahar Swarna, Almun Nahar Annie and Sheikh Rashed Rubayat have returned to Bangladesh and are currently at Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s Burns and Plastic Surgery Unit.
