Power generation in the country has increased by almost three times over the past eight years, said State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid.
"The power generation capacity currently is more than triple from 4,942MW in 2009 to 15,821 MW in 2017 with 400,000 people getting connection every month," he said.
Nasrul said it while talking to state-owned BSS new agency on Monday.
The state minister also said 82 per cent people are now under electricity coverage.
He said the government is now in a position to reach its desired target of generating 24,000 MW by 2020 so that 100 per cent people can be brought under electricity net.
Nasrul said a total of 11.8 million people subscribed for electricity over the past three years.
Moreover, 83 upazilas now have 100 per cent electricity coverage, he added.
