Poll-time government by mid-October: Quader

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Tuesday said that the poll-time government will be formed by mid-October.

He said he had discussion with the Prime Minister about this.

Talking to newsmen at the Secretariat today, Quader said the size of the government will be like the one formed on the previous occasion and there will be no technocrat in the small-size cabinet.

He claimed that Ershad’s Jatiya Party has requested to add one or more leaders of his party to the poll-time government and the Prime Minister will consider the matter.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said that the party's nomination for the national election will be finalised next month.

He said the Prime Minister has given ‘hints’ to 60 to 70 leaders as to taking preparation as they might get nomination.

Replying to another query of reporters about how many seats will be given to the allies in the next elections, the senior AL leader said, it could be 60 to 70.

He also said that the Jatiya Party has declared that if the BNP does not come to the polls, they will compete without alliance. If the BNP joins the fray, the JP will form alliance.

The BNP is trying to create an issue out of its Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s illness. She needs better treatment and it is possible at BSMMU as the hospital is specialised, said Quader, UNB reported.

“BNP couldn’t do anything in last ten years and it will not be possible for them to do anything in next two months either,” said Quader.

He warned local leaders of not involving in any ill competition centring the national election as the AL is now more united and well-organised than any time before.
