Voting in Kurigram-3 by-election begins

Voting in the by-polls to Kurigram-3 constituency began on Wednesday morning in a peaceful manner.

The polling that started around 8 am will continue till 4 pm without any break, said returning officer GM Shahtab Uddin.

However, no untoward incident took place till filling of this report around 10:30 am.

A total of 363,075 voters will exercise their franchise through 159 polling stations in the constituency comprised of one municipality and 16 unions.

There are 69 important polling centres. 159 presiding officer, 767 assistant presiding officer and 1,534 polling agents were on the field of election.

Over 3,000 security personnel, including 2,300 police members, 346 RAB men and 263 BGB men, will remain deployed to check violation of code of conduct in the election area, UNB reported.

Besides, 17 executive magistrates will operate mobile court to oversee the violation of election code of conduct.

The EC on June 10 announced the by-election schedule for the parliamentary constituency. Former minister AKM Mayeedul Islam died on May 11 last.
