PM calls for use of Bangla language correctly

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged all on Wednesday to practise and use Bangla language correctly and uphold the culture and heritage to further help develop the country and brighten its image in the world.

“We’ve protected the dignity of our mother language in exchange for blood and got international recognition in this regard, which is a great pride for us ... so the people shouldn’t forget practice of this language,” she said.

“As Bangalees, we’ve to uphold our culture, heritage and other glories that we have and make the people aware to this end,” she added.

The prime minister said this while inaugurating a four-day programme orgainsed by the International Mother Language Institute (IMLI) marking the International Mother Language Day-2018 at its auditorium in Dhaka, reports BSS.

Chaired by Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid, the function was addressed, among others, by State Minister for Madrasa and Technical Education Division (Education Ministry) Kazi Keramat Ali and Head and Representative of UNESCO Dhaka B Kaldun.

Secretary of National Coexistence Dialogue and Official Languages of Sri Lanka WMPG Wickramasinghe presented the keynote paper on the theme of the day - ‘Linguistic diversity and multilingualism count for sustainable development’.

Secretary of Secondary and Higher Secondary Division of Education Ministry Sohrab Hossain delivered the welcome address while Director General of IMLI Dr Jinat Imtiaz Ali gave the vote of thanks.
