Three out of total five mayoral candidates in last Monday’s election to Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) have lost their security deposit.
Syed Amirul Islam, Regional Election Officer and Returning Officer for the RCC election, said the three candidates are Habibur Rahman, Shafiqul Islam and Advocate Murad Murshed.
He said they failed to get one-eighth (31,360) of total cast (2,50,881) votes. So, they lost their security money worth Tk 20,000 each.
Syed Islam said some 78.66 per cent voters exercised their voting rights in the election.
In the election, Awami League nominated candidate AHM Khairuzzaman Liton was elected mayor bagging 1,65,096 votes against his rival BNP nominee Musaddique Hossain Bulbul who got 77,700 votes, according to a BSS report.
Islam said the other three mayoral candidates — Shafiqul Islam, Advocate Murad Murshed and Habibur Rahman- bagged 3,023, 1,051, and 320 votes respectively.
