Jatiya Party has selected Raushon Ershad as the Leader of the Opposition in parliament keeping the decision to pick its Deputy Leader of the Opposition pending.
The decision over the opposition leader was taken at a meeting of the Jatiya Party Parliamentary Board at the Sangsad Bhaban on Sunday, reports UNB.
Jatiya Party secretary general and opposition chief whip Mashiur Rahman Ranga said this while briefing reporters about the outcome of the meeting.
“Party chairman GM Quader will send a letter to the Speaker to recognise Raushon as the opposition leader,” he said.
He said 25 Jatiya Party MPs were present at the meeting as all reached a consensus to make Raushon the opposition leader.
“GM Quader will discharge the duties of the party chairman,” Ranga said.
About Saturday night’s meeting of Jatiya Party, Ranga said they sat at a city hotel where they decided that Raushon Ershad will be JaPa’s Opposition Leader in Parliament while GM Quader its chairman.
“The remaining posts will be allocated at the party council,” he said.
Talking about the upcoming Rangpur-3 by-election, the JaPa secretary general said all have given responsibility to GM Quader to select the party candidate and he chose HM Ershad’s son Rahgir Al Mahi alias Saad Ershad to contest the polls.
Responding to a query, Ranga said the party is yet to decide who will be its deputy leader of the opposition.
“All the differences in the party have been dispelled,” he claimed.
