Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader on Sunday said their party has formed the nomination board before the announcement of schedule for the by-election to Rangpur-3 constituency as the seat is very important for their party.
“Rangpur-3 seat is very important to Jatiya Party. So, before the announcement of the election schedule, we’ve formed a nomination board,” he said.
Talking to reporters at Jatiya Party Chairman’s Banani office, GM Quader said the nomination board will finalise the candidate for the by-polls after assessing the competence of the aspirants, reports UNB.
“Rangpur-3 is a seat of Jatiya Party and we’ll participate in the by-polls to come out successful,” he added.
Replying to a question, Quader said their party will elect the leader of the opposition in parliament as per its constitution.
Party secretary general Moshiur Rahman Ranga said whoever gets their party’s nomination will surely win the-by-polls as Rangpur-3 is a stronghold of Jatiya Party.
He said their party will arrange various programmes, including doa mahfil and food distribution among the destitute, on August-31, marking the chehlum of their late chairman HM Ershad.
Rangpur-3 parliamentary seat fell vacant following Ershad’s death on July 14. Ershad had won all elections he took part in from this seat since in 1991.
On Saturday, Jatiya Party formed an eight-member parliamentary board, headed by GM Quader, to nominate the party’s candidate in Rangpur-3 by-election.
