BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday regretted that the incidents of killing, rape and reprisal growing as politicians have failed to build a safe and beautiful Bangladesh.
"Why are we indulging in such vengeance, mockery, repression and massacre? Why have our Rafi (Nusrat Jahan Rafi) been killed in such repression? Our politicians are supposed to give answers to the questions...we've failed to give you a beautiful Bangladesh and ensure your security," he told children at a programme, reports UNB.
Speaking at the award-giving ceremony of 10th national child artiste competition, 'Shapla Kuri-2018', the BNP leader further said, "Even after that, I still dream of a prosperous and beautiful Bangladesh where our children will roam freely and they won't be subjected to any attack and our daughters wont' be burnt to death."
Zia Shishu Academy organised the event at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh where 85 children were given award on music, dance, recitation and acting.
Recalling his childhood, Fakhrul bemoaned that people, even children, are now getting much interested in technology instead of getting involved in art and culture. "We're getting defeated to technology."
He also told the children the perspective of the country's Liberation War. "Those who had led the Liberation War are very revered persons to us."
Speaking at the programme, Dhaka University ex-VC Prof Emajuddin Ahmed said it cannot be acceptable in any way that people will not get the security of their lives even after so many years of the country's independence.
He urged the children to be good human being and acquire proper knowledge to build a safe, prosperous and democratic Bangladesh as dreamt by the freedom fighters.
