Detectives arrested nine leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir from different parts of Satkhira town on Tuesday.
The arrestees were identified as Obaidullah Mollah, 50, secretary of Satkhira municipality unit Jamaat-e-Islami, his wife Rajia Sultana, 32, Meherullah, 45, Maulana Abdul Hai Siddique, 32, secretary of ward-7 unit Jamaat of the municipality, SM Haider Ali, 55, Aminur Rahman, secretary of Kamalnagar ward unit Islami Chhatra Shibir, Mokhlesur Rahman, 30, Russel Iqbal, 28, and Alamin, 20.
Acting on a tipp-off, a team of Detective Branch of police conducted drives at Itagaccha and Palashpool Madhu Mollah Dangi areas of the district town and arrested the Jamaat-Shibir men while they were reportedly holding clandestine meetings.
Police also recovered five petrol bombs, books on jihad and country-made weapons from their possession, claimed DB Inspector Julfikar Ali, reports UNB.
