Patrons of Bangabandhu’s killers are still active in politics: Hasan

Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud has said the patrons of the killers of Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman are still active in the country’s politics.

“Being benefitted politically, the patrons of the killers of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu and most of his family members are still active in the country’s politics,” he said while paying homage at the grave of freedom fighter lieutenant Sheikh Jamal on Tuesday, reports BSS.

Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary, showed respect to Sheikh Jamal, son of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, by placing a wreath on his grave at the city’s Banani graveyard, marking his 67th birthday.

He also sought eternal peace of the departed soul of Sheikh Jamal, a ministry press release said.

“On the occasion of Sheikh Jamal’s birthday, elimination of the politics of killing and killers from Bangladesh should be our pledge. And that’s why we should work together to this end,” he said.

The AL joint general secretary said today is the 67th birthday of Sheikh Jamal and he, on behalf of the party, offered ziarat at the grave of Jamal showing respect to his memories.

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members were brutally assassinated on August 15, 1975, he said, adding that Sheikh Jamal was also killed on that day.

Hasan recalled that Sheikh Jamal, who was a brilliant army officer, a cultural-minded person and a freedom fighter, was not involved in politics. “Why was he killed? We must eliminate the politics of killing for forever,” he added.

About coronavirus pandemic, the information minister said Bangladesh is not free from the clutch of the deadly virus, but the way Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is tackling the crisis is highly lauded around the world.

“This is not time to do politics. We should stand by the people together,” he added.

Replying to a question from a reporter, Hasan said the BNP’s politics was established on falsehood and it did not stand by the people.

He said the BNP leaders held photo sessions in the name of relief distribution in Dhaka city and lying continuously against the government is their main task.

The AL joint general secretary urged the BNP leaders to leave up holding the photo sessions and stand by the country’s people amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

AL office secretary Biplab Barua, deputy office secretary Sayeem Khan and Swechchhasebak League general secretary Afzalur Rahman Babu were, among others, present.
