'No decision over dissolution of BCL committee'

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Sunday said the Awami League did not take any decision to dissolve the existing committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).

"But, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina might have resentment about some issues of BCL," the Awami League general secretary added.

“Two meetings of the Parliamentary Board and Local Government Nomination Board were held at Ganabhaban on Saturday and many issues were discussed at the meetings but there was no decision over dissolution of BCL. The Prime Minister might have concerns over its some issues,” he said.

Obaidul Quader came up with the information at the secretariat while talking to reporters over reports run by a section of newspapers over PM’s directives to dissolve BCL, reports UNB.

Earlier in the day, a meeting was held between US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R Miller and Obaidul Quader at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

Asked what issues were discussed at the meeting, Quader said there was a discussion on Rohingyas issue. “There’re some NGOs which are instigating Rohingyas. We discussed how we’ve identified those,” he said.

About the recent meeting of BNP and Oikkya Front leaders with diplomats, Quader said, “It’s their routine work. We aren’t obstructing BNP from waging any movement and they’ve observed their founding anniversary without any hindrance. There’s no political and administrative obstruction to BNP.”

Asked about Jatiya Party leaders, Quader said, “Jatiya Party has its own constitution and they’ll follow it…it’s their internal matter. We’ll welcome the one who will become leader as per the constitution.”
