Krishak Sramik Janata League President Abdul Kader Siddique has met Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader with the general election months away.
They held the meeting at the Secretariat for around half an hour on Thursday afternoon, but none of them disclosed what they discussed.
“No comment,” said Kader Siddique, who left the Awami League and formed his own party two decades ago, when asked about the meeting.
A decorated Liberation War veteran, he had been critical of the ruling party on different occasions and getting closer to the BNP.
The Awami League welcomed the formation of a new alliance ‘Jukto Front’ by KSJL with AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury’s Bikalpadhara, ASM Abdur Rab’s Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD and some other parties last year.
Quader, after meeting leaders of the Communist Party of Bangladesh or CPB recently, said he also talked to Kader Siddique over the phone.
Grassroots BNP leader Nazmul Huda also met Road Transport and Bridges Minister Quader after Kader Siddique.
Huda, a former BNP leader, said they discussed ways for the Grassroots BNP to contest in the next election.
A minister of the coalition government led by the BNP, Huda wants to join the Awami League-led coalition now, said a bdnews24 report.
Huda invited Quader to a programme where the Grassroots BNP is organising to commemorate Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on National Mourning Day on Aug 15.
