JP will remain with Awami League if BNP goes to polls: Ershad

Prime Minister’s Special Envoy and Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman Alhaj Hussein Muhammad Ershad has said his party will remain in the alliance with Awami League (AL) if BNP takes part in the next general elections.

“If BNP does not participate in the next elections, then JP alone will compete in all 300 parliamentary constituencies,” Ershad said this on Satueday while talking to journalists at Rangpur Circuit House after arriving in Rangour  on a five-day visit, reports BSS.

Ershad said there would also be Jatiya Party in the mini cabinet to be formed before the next general elections. But, it has not been decided yet who would be taken in the cabinet.

“BNP is now a scattered party. There is doubt about their participation in the next general elections as their existence is in danger. Till then, we have made two options and preparations regarding our participation in the elections,” he said.

Regarding the alliance led by Dr Kamal Hossain and Badruddoza Chowdhury, Ershad said, “There are two coalitions in the country. One is Awami League-Jatiya Party grand alliance and BNP’s 20-party alliance. No alliance will exist outside it.”
