A local leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) was killed in a factional clash in Court Point area of Sylhet on Monday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Abul Hasnat Shimu, former assistant organising secretary of JCD Sylhet city unit.
According to JCD source, a clash broke out among JCD leaders and activists over standing on the front row in a procession marking the founding anniversary of the organisation.
During the clash, an activist stabbed Shimu with a sharp weapon, leaving him critically injured.
According to UNB, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Model Police Station Gowsul Hossain said Shimu was rushed to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 4pm.
