The High Court (HC) on Monday rejected a writ petition filed by Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) Chairman Andaleeve Rahman Partho seeking the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) in his constituency Bhola-1 during the 11th parliamentary elections.
A bench of Justice Md Ashfaqul Islamand Justice Mohammad Ali passed the order after hearing the writ, reports UNB.
Advocate Ahsanul Karim stood for the petitioner while deputy attorney general Al Amin Sarkar represented the state.
On November 30, Andaleeve submitted a letter to the Election Commission (EC) seeking EVMs in his parliamentary seat but did not receive any response.
Later, he moved the High Court in this regard.
On November 24, the EC decided to use EVMs in all the polling centres of Dhaka-6 and-13, Chattogram-9, Rangpur-3, Khulna-2 and Satkhira-2 constituencies.
