The BNP claims that the trial over the Aug 21 grenade attack is proceeding according to the government’s ‘guidelines’.

The party’s Joint Senior Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the remark at a press conference on Saturday afternoon.

“The people have many questions about the legal proceedings in the Aug 21 bombing case,” he said.

“The government is gleefully exacting political revenge through the court.”

“The people are harbouring grave suspicions about whether the Aug 21 case is proceeding according to the government’s guidelines.”

Rizvi again questioned the validity of adding BNP leaders, including Tarique Rahman, to the chargesheet.

“On 1/11 the government did not find Acting BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman’s name in the investigation.”

“But when the Awami League came to power in 2009, they, in an unprecedented move, brought back a pro-AL person back from retirement to add Tarique Rahman’s name to the chargesheet.

The verdict in the Aug 21 bombing case is to be announced on Oct 10.

Rizvi also repeated demands to admit BNP chief Khaleda Zia to a specialised hospital.

“The pain in the Desh Netri’s (Khaleda Zia) arms and legs has intensified. She is being intentionally barred from treatment in order to ensure her health deteriorates. It is being ignored to prevent Begum Khaleda Zia from receiving treatment at a hospital she trusts in and at the hands of her personal doctors.”

The ‘Prosthesis Compatible MRI Machine’ necessary to diagnose Khaleda Zia is not available at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), he claimed.

“United Hospital and other specialised hospitals have it, but BSMMU doesn’t … so is it unjustified to demand that she be taken to a specialised hospital?”

Rizvi highlighted the president and home minister’s trips to receive medical care abroad, reports bdnews24.

“If it is so well-equipped, why do they go abroad for treatment instead of going to BSMMU?”
