Govt won’t spare culprits involved in MC college incident: Quader

Taking serious note of the rape incident in Sylhet MC College, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Sunday said the culprits involved in such a heinous crime would not be spared.

The government stands like a rock in inflicting punishment on the offenders, and no culprit will be spared, said Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister.

“The government sticks to tough stance over the MC college incident. All culprits, whoever they are, will be brought to justice, none will be spared,” he told a discussion marking the 74th birthday of AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the party’s central Bangabandhu Avenue office  in Dhaka, reports BSS.

AL’s sub-committee on relief and social welfare arranged the discussion titled ‘Jananetri Sheikh Hasina is the leader of humanity in facing natural and man-made disasters’.

Joining the discussion virtually from his official residence, Quader said law of the country is going on its own course and the government does not interfere in judiciary.

The people saw the government did not hinder taking actions against any wrongdoer whether he or she is ruling party leader and supporter or not, he added.

The AL general secretary said they welcomed BNP’s participation in the by-election but BNP’s taking part in the by-polls was a part of its conspiracy.

He described raising allegations to make an election questionable by not campaigning for polls, not giving polling agents and not staying in the field as BNP’s old strategies.

“These strategies have been covered with rust as the people no longer believe in their falsehood,” the minister said.

BNP leaders neither can understand the mindset of the people nor the mindset of its own workers, he said, adding that though workers want to join polls, the party leaders do not let them take part.

He said BNP leaders and workers at grassroots are annoyed with the central leadership for the party’s eye-washing participation in polls.

Quader said BNP could not come out from its dialectic cycle of losing polls before their defeat this time too.

The people’s spontaneous participation in the by-election and making AL candidate victorious have again proved that they have trust in the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he added.

Extending birthday greetings to Sheikh Hasina, the minister said the premier’s political philosophy is to make people’s welfare through politics.
