Five people, including two women, have collected the nomination forms of BNP to contest the upcoming by-election to Rangpur-3 seat with its ticket.
They are BNP Rangpur city unit late president Mozaffar Hossain’s wife Sufia Hossain, its current president Kausar Zaman Babla, general secretary Sohidul Islam Miju, Rangpur district unit general secretary Roisuddin and party founder member Moshiur Rahman Jadu Mia’s daughter Rita Rahman, reports UNB.
BNP assistant office secretary Taiful Islam Tipu said the five nomination seekers collected the party forms at Tk 10,000 each from their central office on Thursday.
He said they all are also supposed to submit the forms along with Tk 25,000 security deposit by Friday evening.
Tipu said their party’s nomination board will interview the aspirants at 5pm on Saturday at BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office to pick the most suitable candidate for the by-polls.
The by-election to the Rangpur-3 seat which fell vacant following the death of Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad will be held on October 5.
According to the election schedule announced by the Election Commission, the deadline for the submission of nomination papers is September 9.
The date for scrutinising the nomination papers is September 11 and the last date for the withdrawal of candidature is September 16.
