BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday said he did not discuss about Khaleda Zia’s parole with Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader during their recent telephonic conversation.

Fakhrul made the statement while speaking to reporters after paying tribute to the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman on Tuesday, reports bdnews24.com.

“I clearly told you the other day to ask him [Quader] about this. Why don’t you ask him?” Fakhrul said when reporters sought his opinion about Quader's recent statement on the telephonic conversation.

Meanwhile, according to BSS, Quader on Tuesday reiterated that Mirza Fakhrul called him with a request to convey an appeal for Khaleda’s freedom to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“If now he (Fakhrul) wants to deny the conversation, there are enough evidences to prove his conservation including its recorded version with me,” he said.

The road transport and bridges minister also alleged that BNP wants to create a political issue over the illness of Khaleda Zia.

“BNP wants to do politics over every matter that is why they are out to create a political issue over the party chief Begum Zia’s physical condition,” he told a joint meeting with leaders of Khulna divisional units of AL at the party’s central office Bangabandhu Avenue  in Dhaka.

Quader said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir could be an experienced politician but in fact, he is not a physician.

The BNP secretary general along with leaders and activists placed a wreath at the grave of the BNP founder, marking the 40th founding anniversary of Jatiyatabadi Tati Dal.

Speaking to reporters after paying tribute to Ziaur Rahman, Fakhrul said, “Our leader Khaleda Zia is very sick. Anything unfortunate can happen to her, given her current physical condition. That’s why we said the government is pushing her toward death in a planned manner. They should free her,” Fakhrul said.

“We have been continuing a movement for her freedom for the past two years and we believe that the government will be compelled to free her as the people want to see her free,” he added.
