Ruling party Awami League (AL) has virtually ruled out arch-rival BNP's demand for holding dialogue ahead of the next Jatiya Sangsad polls.
AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader said, "The next general election will be held in line with the constitution and election-time government is an indispensable part of the constitution."
He was addressing a press conference on Saturday at the party president's Dhanmondi political office in Dhaka.
Also minister for road transport and bridges, Quader said the Election Commission (EC) will conduct the election as per the constitution likewise other parliamentary democratic countries and the entire polls related things including law enforcement agencies go under the EC during the election.
He said a small cabinet will stay to conduct routine works of the government during the election period and the government cannot take any important decision at that time.
According to him, there is no complexity in holding the election as the country's constitution has given clear reference about holding of national election.
He added, "Had there been any problem regarding holding the election, dialogue would have been needed. As there is no complexity, so there is no need to hold a dialogue."
The AL general secretary said the government will extend all necessary supports to the EC.
BNP is making political stance and chanting cheap slogans in the name of dialogue and the party's mindset is not liberal to hold a dialogue, he added.
Quader said the people did not forget the rude talks uttered by BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called for holding dialogue before the previous national election.
The people also knew about the indecent behavior of BNP with a prime minister when Sheikh Hasina went to console Begum Khaleda Zia after her younger son Arafat Rahman Koko had passed away, he added.
Quader said the environment of dialogue had been destroyed on that day as BNP closed the door of talks by closing the door of residence of Khaleda Zia.
If BNP did not make such behaviour, the political scenario of the country could have been different, he observed.
According to BSS, the AL general secretary said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's speech before the country marking the 4th anniversary of the government is very constructive, positive and perfect for the welfare of the state.
Although the people of entire country praised the address to the nation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, only BNP got disappointed, he said.
Quader said actually the fear of losing made BNP disappointed. BNP has been stuck in the quicksand of errors as they cannot read the people's mindset, he observed.
The AL general secretary said BNP took the suicidal decision of not taking part in the previous JS election as they did not read the language of people.
He said BNP would have to pay for long for the mistake they had made by not taking part in the election.
Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Organising Secretary Ahmed Hossain, Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Agriculture and Cooperative Secretary Faridunnahar Laily, among others, were present at the press conference.
