EC to take three-tier security measure in RCC election

Three-tier security measures will be ensured to make the upcoming election to Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) free, fair and credible.

All the agencies concerned, including the law-enforcing agencies, will discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty to make the election acceptable to all.

The views were expressed from a coordination meeting on preparation of the RCC election held at the conference hall of Divisional Commissioner Office in Rajshahi city on Thursday.

Chaired by Commissioner of Rajshahi Division Nur-Ur-Rahman, the meeting was attended by heads of all local offices concerned.

The meeting discussed various ways on how to hold the election in a free and fair manner.

At the meeting, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) was given direction to prepare a list of vulnerable centres and it was informed that the list would be published before a week of the election.

The participants said additional security measures will be taken in the vulnerable centres while three-tier security measures will be taken in both inside and surrounding areas of all polling centres.

RMP Commissioner AKM Hafiz Akter, BGB Sector Commander Col Anwar Fuad and its Battalion Commander Lt Col Shamim Masud Al Ifte Khayer, RAB Commanding Officer Lt Col Mahbub Alam, Deputy Inspector General of Police Nisharul Arif, Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader, Regional Election Officer Syed Amirul Islam and District Election Officer Atiar Rahman, among others, were present at the meeting, said a BSS report.

Syed Amirul Islam told the meeting that the Election Commission (EC) has been working relentlessly to make the election free, fair and credible to all.

The EC will ensure all measures for an acceptable election, he said, adding that all preparations were taken for holding the election on July 30.

According to the election schedule, July 9 has been set as the final date for withdrawal of candidature. Election symbols will be distributed among the candidates on July 10.
