Customs intelligence seized 19 contraband firearms at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the capital on Tuesday, two days after two pistols were seized by them.
On Sunday, a team of customs intelligence found two contraband Walther PP (7.65mm) pistols at the air freight unit of the airport.
These two pistols and 19 other firearms seized on Tuesday were part of a consignment that came from Italy, said Director General of the customs intelligence Moinul Khan.
A total of 58 firearms were in the consignment and 21 of them were seized as they were found to be old and used, he said, adding that import of such used and old products is restricted as per the Import Policy Order 2015-18.
He also said serial numbers of different parts of the pistols were unsynchronised and fabricated.
Imran Arms and Company Ltd. imported the weapons and C&F agent MM Traders was trying to release the consignment.
