BNP wants to hold rally on January 5

BNP wants to hold a rally on January 5 at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka to protest 10th parliamentary election held on that day in 2014.

The party observes January 5 as 'Democracy Killing Day' every year after 2014 general election. BNP and its allies did not take part in this election.

Senior Joint Secretary General of BNP Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Saturday said the party has already sought permission for the rally.

He came up with the disclosure at a discussion at Girls' Guide House at Bailey Road in the city.

Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (JASAS) arranged the discussion marking its founding anniversary.

"We have decided to hold a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on January 5. We have sent letters to the police and other authorities concerned seeking permission for it," Rizvi said.

He further said, "Democracy was snatched on that day. We will register our protest against it through the rally.

UNB says, the BNP leader called upon the leaders and activists of the party and its associate bodies to work together to make the rally a success.

BNP insiders said the party is preparing to stage a big showdown on January 5 through the rally and thus rejuvenate its rank and file in the New Year.
