Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said BNP will lose its existence as a political party if it does not participate in the next general election.

The minister came up with the remarks after attending a meeting with government officials of Sylhet district at the Deputy Commissioner's office on Monday, UNB reported.

"No system can be more appropriate than the existing one for holding a free and fair election," Muhith added.

About electricity supply, Muhith said, “The government has relentlessly been working to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply in Sylhet...now the district gets adequate electricity. Since there is no shortage of power, complaints from consumers regarding power supply should put government official jobs at risk.”

Local political leaders, senior officials of the district and the police administration were present at the meeting.
