Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said the BNP is spreading lies with their claim that party chief Khaleda Zia’s medical file has been kept at Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s office.
The road transport and bridges minister made the remarks while addressing the council of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Dhaka University (DU) unit at Teachers-Student Centre (TSC) on the campus on Sunday, reports bdnews24.com.
“If Begum Zia is ill, the prison authorities will take the necessary steps,” said Quader. “The home ministry and the ministry of health are available. Why would the papers go to the prime minister’s office?”
Obaidul Quader said, "They [the BNP] engage in a politics of falsehood. They lie all the time. They make it seem as if the papers are with the prime minister and that one signature from her will fulfil all their goals. Will that cure Begum Zia?”
"The government will take all necessary steps for her (Khaleda) proper treatment according to the advice of the medical board," he said.
"The government had no role in imprisoning Khaleda Zial. It's totally a matter of the court. I'm not clearly informed about her illness. But if she needs any treatment, the government will take all the steps as per the jail code," said Quader.
According to UNB, BCL president Saifur Rahman Sohag inaugurated the council while DU BCL unit president Abid Al Hasan presided over it.
AL joint general secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak and organising secretary Enamul Huq Shamim were presented as special guests.
It was moderated by DU BCL unit general secretary Motahar Hossain Prince.
