BNP on Thursday alleged that the government is going to take an "anti-people" move by raising gas tariffs and "creating a further scope for the ruling party men to plunder public money".
Speaking at a press conference at BNP's Nayapaltan central office, party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi demanded the government back off from such a move immediately, reports UNB.
"The government has initiated a process to hike the gas price. The minister concerned said the gas tariff will be raised. We think such a move will only create another scope of looting public money," he said.
The BNP leader further said, "I, on behalf of BNP, strongly condemn and protest the government's move. I urge the government to retreat from such an anti-people step."
Rizvi said the life of people dependent on the gas will turn miserable if the unity price is hiked again.
He alleged that the government is trying to increase the gas tariff as it is least bothered about public sufferings.
The BNP leader warned that people will not accept any decision of hiking the gas price.
Rizvi alleged that their party chairperson Khaleda Zia is not provided any treatment in jail as part of the government's plot to gradually kill her.
He demanded the government immediately release Khaleda from jail to ensure her proper treatment.
