Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Tuesday said BNP doesn’t believe in the power of mass people as it is searching for a clandestine alley to go to the power.
“In fact, BNP doesn’t believe in the power of people. For this, they have a tendency to run away from the elections. The party (BNP) didn’t take part in the 2014’s polls and also tried to run away from the 2018’s elections. But later they took part in the polls after a lot of dramas,” he said.
The minister came up with the allegations while replying to a query of reporters at his official residence in the city’s Mintu Road area, reports BSS.
On the other hand, Hasan said, Awami League always believes in the verdict of people and the party didn’t go to power without the mandate of the countrymen. According to BNP’s history, it had gone to power through a clandestine alley, he added.
He said BNP’s senior leaders are giving such statements as they have no confidence in the people. They are also talking nonsense over elections.
He said BNP knows that they have moved away far from mass people and they could not go to power through polls.
“For this, the party is searching for the clandestine alley to go to power. But, the day of going to power through the backdoor is over in Bangladesh,” said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.
Replying to another query over the proposals of some political parties for forming ‘National Government’ during the elections period, the minister said there is no scope or necessary to form any special government to rehabilitate the politicians, who are abandoned in politics.
“Some political parties, who formed an alliance with the BNP, are now proposing to form a national government. But, all of them are abandoned in politics and they are giving such proposals with the aim of rehabilitating themselves. The present government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would perform the duty during the election period as per the constitution. And there is no other scope,” said Hasan.
Replying to another query, he said there is no need for others to make the party (BNP) weak. They (BNP) are weakening themselves and the internal feud proves it, he added.
He said the countrymen have witnessed that they fought among themselves wherever they organised rallies. Such incidents were not held only in Pabna, but also everywhere in the country, he added.
“But we don’t know why they postponed the rally in Feni. I would like to extend thanks to them if they postponed the rally for the death of Joynal Hazari,” Hasan said.
Earlier, the minister joined a function of distributing warm clothes from his family’s charity organization NNK Foundation online.
In his speech, Hasan sought doa for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from his area’s people and said the party (AL) always stands beside the people.
