BNP politically bankrupt: Quader

Thursday said people do not respond to the BNP’s call for movement as the party has become politically bankrupt.

“It is BNP’s weakness that they cannot wage a mass movement. Awami League has nothing to do here,” he said while addressing a meeting of Dhaka City South AL at the party’s central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city, reports BSS.

About BNP leaders’ remarks that the government is responsible for not releasing party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia from jail, Quader said it is a matter of law and the country’s judiciary is working independently. The government cannot release her, he said.

Commenting on BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s remarks, the AL general secretary said there is no crisis of democracy in the country, the crisis lies in BNP. “Because Miraz Fakhrul did not take oath after being elected a member of parliament and BNP gave nomination to another party man in the by-election in the constituency from where Fakhrul was elected.”

Quader added that a party, which is isolated from people for doing negative politics, could only say that there is crisis of democracy in the country.

The minister said BNP is now out to spread falsehood against the government after failing in movement and election.

Quader said spreading rumor about the Padma bridge construction is part of BNP’s conspiracy.

He said different propaganda and rumors are being spread at home and abroad to push the government into trouble as the conspirators cannot accept the construction of Padma bridge with own finance.

Dhaka City South AL President Abul Hasnat chaired the meeting while its general secretary Shahe Alam Murad, Vice-President Abu Ahmed Mannafi, Nurul Amin Ruhul, Abul Bashar, Joint General Secretary Kamal Chowdhury, Organizing Secretary Kazi Morshed Kamal, Publicity Secretary Akhter Hossain and Deputy Office Secretary Miraz Hossain addressed the meeting among others.
