BNP never hesitates to sell independence to assume power, Obaidul Quader says

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Monday said BNP does not hesitate to sell the independence of the country to assume power in disguise of patriotism.

"Those who join hands with the anti-liberation forces cannot be the protector of the country's sovereignty ever," he said while addressing a press conference on contemporary issues at his official residence in the capital, reports BSS.

The road transport and bridges minister said, “The BNP leaders have forgotten that the long-standing border disputes between Bangladesh and India were resolved with the hands of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”

“The BNP leaders often talk against India, but the country's people had seen how they bowed down before India in the past,” he said.

The AL general secretary said the long-pending enclave exchange was completed and the border disputes were resolved for the courage and diplomatic skills of Sheikh Hasina.

“The BNP could not resolve any disputes during its era, but built a wall of mistrust between the two neighbours,” he said, adding that keeping the interest of the country and its people, the government of Sheikh Hasina created the bridge of relations with the neighbouring countries, dismantling the wall of mistrust.

Quader said the BNP tried to gain political interest in keeping the border disputes alive and its leaders had forgotten to raise water issues during their visit to India.

Mentioning that several meetings were held with India over border killings, he said the Indian government has pledged to stop border killings, hoping that India will keep its pledge.

Greeting Sheikh Rehana, younger daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on her 67th birthday, the AL general secretary said Sheikh Rehana has inspired her elder sister Sheikh Hasina to stay behind the scene.

Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana had gone through a hard time after the killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, he said although Sheikh Rehana is not involved in politics directly, she always gives courage to Sheikh Hasina.

Mentioning that Sheikh Rehana leads a very simple life and through she established her children with her hard-working, Quader said her children have established their careers internationally, as her daughter Tulip Siddiq is now a British parliament member of Labour Party.

He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is today a successful statesman for the sacrifice, encouragement and unending support of Sheikh Rehana.

Her son Radwan Mujib Siddiq Bobby is working in an international organisation, while her younger daughter Azmina Siddiq is working as a global risk analyser in London, the road transport minister said.

The two daughters of Bangabandhu have been working sincerely to bring smiles on the faces of the country, he said, paying respect to Sheikh Rehana on her birthday.

He also wished long life and good health for Sheikh Rehana.
