‘BNP misleading people in name of taskforce on COVID-19’

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Friday said BNP is spreading misleading information among people over COVID-19, demanding formation of a national taskforce to this end.

“There is no example of formation of such taskforce in tackling coronavirus in any country of the world. BNP is spreading the virus of misleads among the commoners in the name of building a national taskforce or national unity,” he said in a video message issued from his official residence in Dhaka, reports BSS.

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, turned down the BNP’s call for forming a national taskforce to tackle the COVID-19, but said the government would welcome any good advice to this end.

Calling upon all the political parties to play a responsible role in fighting the ongoing coronavirus crisis, he said every party should play a responsible role in this regard.

“If you want to give any good advice to the government in tacking coronavirus, we of course will be happy to accept it,” the AL general secretary said.

He said a vested quarter is spreading propaganda saying that the government is building a special hospital for the VIP COVID-19 patients. It is merely a rumour, he added.

“As per I know, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina did not accept any such proposal. We treat patients as patients whoever they are- the poor or the rich. There is no reason to think that coronavirus would spare any particular section of people based on their religion, caste and political thoughts,” he added.

Urging people to follow the health guidelines to prevent coronavirus, Quader said everyone should play his or her respective role in tackling the invisible enemy.

In his video message, he greeted the Muslim Ummah on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.
