An Appellate Division order has ruined the prospects of BNP leaders Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku and Ruhul Kuddus Talukdar Dulu.

The chamber judge of the Supreme Court had earlier halted a High Court decision that cleared the way for Tuku and Dulu to compete in the polls.

On Wednesday, the Appellate Division upheld the suspension order by the chamber judge.

The fresh court battle came after the Election Commission filed a petition to the Appellate Division challenging the High Court decision, reports bdnews24.

Returning officers had rejected their applications for the 11th parliamentary election on the context of their prison sentences. Tuku and Dulu challenged the decisions but the Election Commission upheld the returning officers’ decision after a review.

A High Court bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil halted the Election Commission’s decision to reject the nominations of the BNP leaders after hearing the petitions on Monday.

Earlier today, Dulu was arrested from his Gulshan home in a case filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
