BNP brings out procession in city after Juma prayers

BNP leaders and activists brought out a procession from Baitul Mukarram national mosque after Juma prayers protesting their party chief Khaleda Zia’s conviction in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

They chanted slogans demanding release of Khaleda Zia.

However, police dispersed the BNP men when they reached near Nightingale Crossing at Naya Paltan around 2 pm.

Police also detained some BNP leaders and activists from Naya Paltan area.

BNP on Thursday announced countrywide demonstrations protesting its chairperson Khaleda Zia's conviction in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case, according to UNB.

As part of their two-day demonastration programme, party leaders and activists brought out the rally after Juma prayers.

Amid heightening tensions and various speculations, a special court here on Thursday convicted the former prime minister and sentenced her to five years' imprisonment in the much-talked-about Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
