BNP on Thursday blamed the government's mismanagement and irresponsibility for the loss of huge lives in fire at a chemical warehouse in Chawkbazar area of Old Dhaka.
"The government has failed to deliver on all fronts. It's utterly exposing its failure in protecting people's lives. We're seeing people are losing lives everywhere due to the government's mismanagement and lack of responsibility," BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, reports UNB.
The BNP leader came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after offering fathea at the graves of language martyrs at Azimpur graveyard.
Fakhrul said the government is least bothered about public safety and running the country properly as it only wants to hang onto power by any means.
At least 70 people were killed and around 50 others injured in a devastating fire that broke out at a chemical warehouse and raged through four other buildings in the city's Chawkbazar area on Wednesday night.
Meanwhile, Fakhrul issued a condolence message expressing deep shock over the loss of huge lives in Chawkbazar fire incident.
The BNP leader also parlayed for salvation of the departed soul of the fire victims and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family members.
He wished early recovery of those sustained burn injures in the incident.
The BNP leader also urged physicians and the country's people to stand by the victims and those receiving treatment at different hospitals.
"Such heartrending incidents are recurring due to the government's indifference which can never be accepted," he observed.
