Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Sunday said Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib was not only the wife of Bangabandhu but also his co-fighter in his entire life.

The road transport and bridges minister made the comments while talking to journalists after paying homage to Bangamata by placing a wreath on her grave at Banani graveyard on the occasion of her 91st birth anniversary, reports BSS.

On behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, at first, Quader paid homage to Bangamata by placing a wreath on her grave. Later, the AL general secretary along with the party’s central leaders placed another wreath on her grave.

“From behind the curtain, Bangamata had always given inspirations, strength and courage to Bangabandhu in struggles as well as every crisis moment,” Quader said.

The minister said Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib is one of the greatest Bangalee women in the 20th century.

In absence of Bangabandhu, Bangamata had contributed extensively to the nation’s struggle for freedom from behind the scene, he said.

AL Presidium Members Begum Matia Chowdhury, Dr Abdur Razzaque, Shajahan Khan, Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman, Joint General Secretary and Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, Joint General Secretaries Mahbubul-Alam Hanif and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua and Central Working Committee Member Dr Mustafa Jalal Mahiuddin were present among others while paying tributes on behalf of the party.

Later, Dhaka city north and south units of AL, Bangladesh Krishak League, Awami Swechchhasebak League, Mohila Awami League, Jubo Mohila League, Awami Matsyajibi League, Bangladesh Chhatra League, Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote and different other social and cultural organisations paid homage to Bangamata on her birth anniversary.
