Awami League leader Hanif suspects Tarique's link with Pilkhana carnage

Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif on Saturday alleged that BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman was involved with the 2009 carnage at Pilkhana.

“Tarique Rahman's involvement with the massacre can be found out through an investigation,” he said.

The Awami League leader made the allegation while replying to questions from journalists before joining the inaugural ceremony of Kabadi Competition arranged on the occasion of Mujib Barsho and the golden jubilee of the country's independence in Dhaka, reports BSS.

Referring to a comment of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Tarique Rahman had phoned BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia more than once to go away from her residence on the day of carnage.

On that day, Khaleda Zia went into hiding going out of her residence, he said, adding that there was a connection between that incident and the BDR mutiny.

"We, too, demand an investigation. If an investigation is done, BNP's connection with the massacre will be found out," he said.

Hanif said the mutiny was perpetrated on the just 50th day after the formation of the Awami League government. “Why the massacre was carried out,” he questioned.
