Ruling Awami League will nominate a suitable and efficient candidate in upcoming by-election to the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayoral post.
AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader came up with the statement on Tuesday.
The mayor DNCC post was declared vacant on Sunday four days after its first mayor Annisul Huq passed away.
"The AL is not in a hurry to nominate candidate for the DNCC polls...it will nominate a suitable candidate," he said.
The Road Transport and Bridges Minister made the remarks while talking with reporters after visiting Akhi Moni, a blind patient, at the National Orthopedic Institute and Hospital in Dhaka.
Obaidul Quader said the post of DNCC mayor was declared vacant as per the rules and AL did not interfere in it.
The AL general secretary said BNP does not know what they are talking about as they are in a fix what to do.
According to BSS, he categorically said election is a democratic process. "BNP wants to participate in the polls and we also want an inclusive general election."
Earlier, the AL general secretary enquired about the health condition of Akhi Moni and assured her family members of providing all-out assistance for her treatment.
