The ruling Awami League has paid profound respect to the memory of former President M Zillur Rahman marking his sixth death anniversary.
Leaders of the party paid homage by placing wreaths at his grave in city’s Banani Graveyard on Wednesday morning, reports BSS.
During this time, AL Joint General Secretary and Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Joint General Secretaries Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman, Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Deputy Minister for Water Resources Enamul Haque Shamim, Cultural Affairs Secretary Ashim Kumar Ukil, Central Labour Affairs Secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj, Agriculture and Cooperative Secretary Faridun Nahar Laily, Science and technology affairs secretary Engineer Abdus Sabur, AL Deputy Office Secretary and special secretary to Premier Barrister Biplob Barua , Central leaders Advocate Riazul Kabir Kawsar, Anwar Hossain and son of Zillur Rahman as well as lawmaker Nazmul Hassan Papon were present on the occasion.
Besides, Dhaka City South Awami League General Secretary Shahe Alam Murad, Jubo League Chairman Omar Farque Chowdhury and Jubo League General Secretary Md Harunur Rashid, among others, paid tributes to the late President.
Zillur Rahman was the undeclared guardian of Bangabandhu family following the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members on the fateful night of August 15 in 1975.
The 19th President of Bangladesh, Zillur Rahman breathed his last at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore on March 20 in 2013.
As one of the main associates of Bangabandhu, he played an important role in the historic Language Movement and the War of Liberation.
