Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader said the politics of blind hatred has infiltrated the job quota reform demonstrators, reports bdnews24.com.

"On the night of Operation Searchlight on March 25, 1971, there was carnage on the Dhaka University campus, but no attack was committed in the VC's residence. Yet, after 47 years of the independence, this has happened," he said.

"So undoubtedly, the politics of blind hatred has infiltrated the quota reform demonstrators," said the AL leader, calling the vandalism in the VC's residence an act of 'brutality' after his visit to the scene on Tuesday.

His comment comes a day after an unidentified group vandalised the VC's residence during the quota reform protests.

He said none of those involved with the attack on the Dhaka University Vice Chancellor's residence will be spared.

"We are investigating the matter. Some of the attackers we have identified and the rest will be identified soon."

The entire residence was vandalised in the attack, with broken glasses and paper littering on the floor. Flower vases were smashed and some burned chairs and tables were seen in front of the residence.Soon after the vandalism, Prof Md Aktaruzzaman said, "Those who came to my home were masked. They came to kill me. They were trying to spark instability in our country."

However, he said there was no connection between the ongoing quota reform protests and ransacking his residence.

Thousands of students and job seekers under the banner of Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad have been staging protests across the country against the governments' decision to set aside 56 per cent of civil service jobs for the families of freedom fighters and disadvantaged people since Sunday.
