President Md Abdul Hamid has said that the police must serve people with more dedication and responsiveness because that is how they can win people’s trust.

Addressing a programme at the Bangabhaban on Wednesday to mark the Police Week 2018, Hamid said: “People come to you when they are in trouble. So you must thrive as a people-friendly force in order to fulfil their expectations.”

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque and other senior police officials attended the event.

Police play the key role in establishing the rule of law, a vital component of democracy, he added. “So you must act more responsibly to build a safe society infused with the values of democracy and human rights.”
“It is your sacred duty to safeguard the lives and property of people, annihilate crimes and terrorism. You must constantly try to emerge as a force driven towards the development of people,” he said.

Hamid noted that criminals are now far more united across the world due to the advancements of information technology, says a bdnews24.

“Globalisation, free market economy and advanced information and communication technology have added new dimensions to crimes. The criminals are getting involved in transnational militant activities,” said the president.

He praised the Bangladesh police force for meeting the challenge with prudence and bravery. “Their success in combating militancy has drawn accolades both at home and abroad.”

The police must cooperate with people, he said stressing the importance of community policing. “I want to reiterate that you must unite with the people in order to serve them and win their trust.”
