Police arrested Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami leader Gazi Nazrul Islam, who is contesting the upcoming general election from Satkhira-4 constituency with the 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol, and two other party leaders in Shyampur upazila on Sunday afternoon.
Officer-in-charge of Shyampur Police Station Abul Kalam Azad said they picked up Nazrul from house Atulia residence around 2:30pm, reports UNB.
Law enforcers also arrested Jamaat upazila unit ameer Abdul Bari, also suspended chairman of Shyamnagar upazila parishad, and Padmapukur union unit ameer Abdur Rob from their respective houses, he said.
Nazrul stood accused in 20 cases filed on various charges, including sabotage, the OC said, adding that Bari also faces several violence cases.
