Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday distributed cheques of donation to nine persons in response to their applications for financial assistance for treatment and subsistence.
Sheikh Hasina handed over the cheques of donation for Tk 12.5 million (Tk 1.25 crore) to the recipients at her Tejgaon office in the city.
Noted Rabindra Sangeet singer Mita Haque, photo journalist Jalal Uddin Haider and Farzana Islam Shila of Khulna Sadar Upzaila were given financial assistance for their treatment. Shila’s husband Quamrul Islam Kuttu was killed in a bomb attack.
Kajal Kanti Singha, an Awami League leader of Rangunia Upazila of Chittagong, and Halima Begum, wife of deceased Fire Brigade worker Abdul Malek Laskar, were given donation for their subsistence.
Other persons who received cheques from the premier are Abeda Begum, wife of deceased Awami League leader of Khulna City, Swapna Rani Bhattachariya of Purbadhala of Netrakona, and Abdul Jabbar, a Freedom Fighter and boxer of Patgram Upazila of Lalmonirhat district.
The prime minister also gave a donation for holding the fifth reunion of Dhaka University Rokeya Hall Alumni Association, reports BSS.
