Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged the people of Bangladesh to remain united so that the defeated forces of Pakistan cannot come to power ever.
“All the people of Bangladesh to be united so that the people who support Pakistan cannot distort history of the country,” she said.
Hasina alleged that a group of people had tried to erase the name of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his historic March 7 speech.
"They are evil forces of Pakistan,” Hasina said.
“Don’t they feel embarrassed after the recognition of the UNESCO?” the PM questioned.
All historic speeches were written but Bangabandhu delivered March 7 speech without any script, she added, according to live telecast by several televisions.
The Prime Minister, also Awami League chief, made the remarks at a rally to celebrate the recognition of the historic March 7 speech by UNESCO as part of the world's documentary heritage.
A citizen committee organised the rally at the Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka city on Saturday to celebrate the recognition.
Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Bangabandhu, was the chief guest at the event. She reached the rally venue around 2:40 pm.
Dhaka University Emeritus Professor Dr Anisuzzaman presided over the rally organised by Nagorik Committee.
Nazrul researcher Prof Rafiqul Islam, popular novelist Prof Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, editor of Samakl newspaper Golam Sarwar and educationist Shyamoli Nasrin Chowdhury also spoke at the programme.
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor recited a poem of legendary litterateur Syed Shamsul Huq.
Eminent poet Nirmelandu Goon recited his own famous poem 'Jevabe Swadhinata Shobdo Ti Amader'.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Kader read out the 'Letter of Thanks' to UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova.
It was handed over to the country director of UNESCO to send it to the DG.
The programme started with the playing of the national anthem followed by observing a one-minute silence to show respect to all martyrs.
The stage was designed as a boat, the election symbol of ruling Awami League.
Activists of Awami League and its allies marched to Suhrawardy Udyan from different areas in Dhaka and beyond to take part in the rally.
Students and people from many occupations and backgrounds are taking part in the celebration.
According to bdnews24.com, police have blocked the Rupashi Bangla Hotel intersection, the Kakrail intersection, the GP intersection, Golap Shah Mazar, the Dhaka Medical College intersection and the Nilkhet intersection to allow the marches.
Earlier on October 31, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) recognised the historic 7th March Speech of Bangabandhu as part of world's documentary heritage.
