Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended a milad and doa mahfil marking 54th birthday of Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The programme was held at Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi after Maghrib prayers on Wednesday, reports BSS.
A special munajat was offered seeking eternal peace of the departed soul of Sheikh Russell, PM's youngest brother, as well as Bangabandhu and other martyrs of the August 15 carnage.
The participants in the doa mahfil also prayed for good health and long life of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her younger sister Sheikh Rehana.
Pesh Imam of Sobhanbagh Jame Mosque Alhaj Md Liakat Hossain conducted the munajat.
Awami League leaders, PM's family members and relatives including also joined the milad and doa mahfil, among others.
Besides, officials and employees of the Prime Minister's Office, Ganabhaban and Bangabandhu Memorial Museum attended the milad and doa mahfil.
On this day in 1964, Sheikh Russell was born in the historic Bangabandhu Bhaban on Dhanmondi Road No. 32 in Dhaka.
On the fateful night of August 15 in 1975, Sheikh Russell along with most of the family members of Bangabandhu was brutally killed by some derailed junior army officers.
