Renowned physicist Prof Dr Abu Abdullah Ziauddin Ahmad has passed away at a Dhaka hospital.
The former chairman of the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organisation (SPARRSO) died on Saturday at the age of 79.
He leaves behind his wife, two children and three grandchildren.
Ahmad recently retired as the chairperson of BRAC University’s Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences after 15 years.
The funeral prayers are to be held at the Eidgah Mosque on Dhanmondi Road 6A after Jummah prayers on Friday.
A physics graduate from the University of Rajshahi, Ahmed and obtained a PhD from the Imperial College of Science, Technology & Medicine London, UK in 1965.
According to bdnews24, he has done research in the fields of theoretical nuclear physics, neutron physics, lattice dynamics and crystal field level splitting.
He had over 50 years of research and teaching experience at several notable institutions, including Imperial College, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology, University of Dhaka and BRAC University.
