Bangladesh Railway has started distributing compensation cheques to the people who are affected by Padma rail link project.
The cheques were distributed among the affected people at a function held at Naudoba Haat Government Primary School under Jajira upazila of Shariatpur district on Monday.
Bangladesh Railway, Construction Supervision Consultant (CSC) of Bangladesh Army and Development Organisation of the Rural Poor (DORP) jointly organised programme, says a UNB report citing a DORP press release on Tuesday.
Director General of Bangladesh Railway Md Amzad Hossain was the chief guest of the event while Chief Coordinator of CSC Major General Abu Sayeed Md Masud attended at the special guest, chaired by the project director Eng Golam Fakhruddin Ahmed Chowdhury.
DORP executive director and Gusi Peace Price International laureate AHM Nouman and the project's chief resettlement officer AM Salah Uddin also spoke on the occasion. The programme was conducted by the Colonel Sayed Ahmed.
